The first year that I lived in New York I worked at a small music public relations company. I got the job while I was still living in Boston so I raced to find an apartment and move in just a few weeks. When I moved in I had a box of flatware from some store in New Hampshire that was cheap and boring. As someone who had never worked for more than a summer I decided to incentivize work for myself through my favorite flatware – I bought one piece a week for a year. After a few bonus pieces I ended up with eight full six-piece place settings of Sabre, my favorite.
